My BFF Wendy and I are, indeed, good girls! But we don't have enough money to go to Paris ... that and, while Wendy is an adventurer with no equal, I am utterly phobic and petrified of flying. And I don't have enough vacation time left (even if I could afford it) to sail my way to France.
So thankfully, good girls can also go to Detroit to indulge in cravings for crepes!
Good Girls Go To Paris is a lovely creperie near the amazing Detroit Institute of Arts. We had specifically gone to Detroit on a gorgeous Saturday recently specifically to visit the colossal and fabulous Eastern Market, and decided we would eat lunch someplace new and special while we were in the city.
Wendy and I have both lived in Michigan since 1978, and for some inconceivable reason had never been to this massive extravaganza for which the term "farmers' market" is woefully insufficient. And so, that day we decided to remedy the situation and then reward ourselves with a treat while striving to stay within the budgetary limits of my new feature -- Frugal Floozie Friday.
And what, you may ask, is the price limit???
$5 per person. Severe, but true.
But believe it or not, a good girl can have a lot of fun for such a small expenditure!
As you can see from the creperie's menu, there are savory options and sweet ones, all given girls' names. Well, of course we then had to order the "Wendy" (blue cheese, spinach, walnuts, and cherries with raspberry vinaigrette) for an elegant entree and the "Mary" (sugar, cinnamon, and butter) for dessert -- our Frugal Floozie Friday feature at $4.50. How could we resist???
The huge crepe -- which is made fresh and in full view of customers at the front counter -- held a perfect proportion of ingredients. The sweetness shone through without being overwhelmed by the crepe, and the crepe wasn't stuffed to bursting with an overabundance of sugary goo inside.
This was a perfect lunch for a day on which Wendy and I had a superlative adventure, walking more than 6 miles as we toured areas of Detroit and basked in the sunshine. I cannot recommend Good Girls Go To Paris highly enough!
