Getting to Know Me

Getting to know YOU

I usually write about food -- recipes, restaurants, photos, memories, shopping, whatever. If it's food-related, it gets its moment in the spotlight here at some point.

And yet, as much as I -- Yenta Mary, the kinda flaky chick who has affinities for such disparate entities as languages on the verge of extinction, the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle, and cheesy 70s songs -- might be in evidence as I blather about food and all the tangential tidbits that go along with it, I suppose folks might want to know a little something else about me ... maybe, maybe not. But I enjoy learning more about my friends here in cyberspace, so I'm going to join in the weekly "Getting to Know YOU" party and answer a few questions.

1. If you were to win an award today, what would it be for?

"Furthest Behind on the Most Projects and Intentions."

2. What is your shoe style?

Gold ballet flats. Feathered flip-flops made by my friend, the artist Mary Schuman. Silver sandals.

3. Does your car reflect your personality?

I drive a '99 Suburban. It hardly seems the right car for a prissy, pink-and-glitter-festooned girly-girl ... and yet, it clearly says something about me because I love it dearly! It's big, it's spacious, I feel safe and in control while I drive it. It's very "me" while being very un-"me."

4. If you could take over someone's body for a day, whose would you choose?

If I had the money and if I didn't have to put my life at risk for it, I would have the infamous Mommy Makeover; but since I can't do that, I will keep my own body. It's not what it was before I gained 60 pounds when I was pregnant, but it's pretty good for someone who's 47. And considering that I have no significant health issues (other than an inefficient thyroid and a hint of thinning in my hip bones) even though weight and blood pressure and cholesterol problems and diabetes and uterine fibroids all run in my family, I think my own body -- despite succumbing to gravity -- is worth keeping around.

5. Love or be loved?

Unrequited love is so sad .... Either both or none.

6. If you were on death row, what last meal would you choose?

Too many options. But it would have to include chocolate!

7. Have you been on vacation this Summer, and if so where?

Jeremy and I spent 2 days in Chicago in June. Other than that, Summer is our busy season at work and vacation is something that other people get to enjoy.

8. What is your favorite food related guilty pleasure?

Cheetos. Milk Duds. I'm sure there are more, but those are the two that come immediately to mind.

Now that that's done, let me share this bit of amusement: In finding these questions posted on MannLand 5, I also found another fabulous thing -- The BlogOscars!

Keely from MannLand 5 and Jen from A Daily Scoop of Chaos are hosting the BlogOscars, which will be awarded sometime in October. To nominate blogs in any of the following categories, please send an email to theblogoscars@gmail.com.

The categories are:

Best Blog
Best Animated
Best Pictures
Best Blog Carnival
Most Supportive
Best Comedy
Most Dramatic
Best Action
Most Unique
Most Artistic
Best Written

I love this idea, and already have several nominees in mind. I've always dreamt of winning an Oscar -- 'twould be for Best Screenplay, 'cause I can't act and I can't handle anything technical for special effects. But people always tell me I should write a book, and I can see at least one notion as having potential to be either a play or a movie. But I digress ....

This is the closest I might ever come to walking the red carpet and schmoozing with the media; so if anyone thinks my little pink blog is worthy of a nomination, I would be thrilled ... :)

I'm so with you on the ballet flats! I just got a new cheetah pair as I've worn the last pair for 4 years and they've had better days - I'd have ballet flats in every color with bows and frills if I could afford them!
Going to check out the blog Oscars now!
