Berries with Sweetened Sour Cream

I first tried this sweetened sour cream about 30 years ago at a restaurant whose name I've forgotten; it was dolloped over raspberries, and its richness compared to the sweet-tart fruit was extraordinary!

Unfortunately, I often forget about this simple treat, usually eating berries either in their plain but delicious glory, or making jam with them, or baking some sort of dessert featuring them.

But this is so sublime that it deserves to be remembered, and served often throughout the summer. Raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and even a mix thereof ... it will be truly luscious ... :)

Commenting update: I have found that if I type in "Yenta Mary" and my website URL, I can leave comments on some sites -- yay!!! However, this option isn't always brought up ... why the randomness??? Who knows? But I've been trying to stop by and visit and say "hi" to folks when I can, when the system grants me permission and acknowledges my existence ... sigh. If I didn't hate Wordpress so much, Blogger would lose me after all the nonsense of the past couple of weeks ....

Sweetened Sour Cream

1/3 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Mix all ingredients together. Serve over berries, or even as a dip for large strawberries.

Serves 2.

I have never had sweetened sour cream! It sounds like a wonderful alternative to whipped cream to me. I must try it when the berries are in season around here. I'm glad you, at least, found somewhat of a fix for your commenting issues. It worked on my blog. yay! Thanks so much for stopping by! It was nice to see you again. Have a wonderful day!

I can't wait til there are berries on my strawberry plants! This is a great idea. And, Mary, last night for dinner we had your Curried Rhubarb Chicken. I felt like it was a dish from a fancy restaurant. It was accompanied by fresh asparagus. We loved it! :-)

What's going on with Blogger now? I noticed that Angela at FRS posted something about commenting problems. Sheesh! I wish they'd tell us what's going when they have a problem or do maintenance.

On the bright side, I love this little recipe. I first tried this at an office party years ago and it has become a family favorite since then. There's nothing better with berries. I also like adding a drop or two of almond extract.

This was delicious! I had Belgian waffles with fresh blackberries this morning that needed just little something special. I had never considered sweetened sour cream as a topping before, but it was all I had and a quick search turned up this recipe. I was out of brown sugar, but had just enough molasses to compensate and it was indeed sublime. With a couple of slices of a nice thick-cut bacon, this made a truly divine breakfast!
